Told in the style of a parable novel, The Breakthrough Code is not a book for just anyone, but for people who truly wish to transform their lives. It follows Jonathan’s journey as his life hits a standstill and forces him to face situations of his past that hold him back.
He has a great job, a stable, long-term relationship, and an apartment to call his own. On the surface, Jonathan’s life represents the epitome of success, but in reality, he is barely hanging on.
“Most people are not focused. They’re multitasking. They’re on their phone. They’re taking every little interruption,” McCarthy says. He explained that people who do things at a very very high level and create “breakthroughs,” create a “fortress of focus.”
Operating in a fortress of focus is all about programming your subconscious mind to help you towards achieving your desired result. According to McCarthy, the subconscious mind processes 40 million bits of information per second, while the conscious mind only processes 40 bits of information per second. So if you tap into your subconscious mind, it will find ways to nudge you in the direction you want to go.
In The Breakthrough Code, Jonathan encounters mentors who teach him certain habits that he can implement in his life that can help him take more control of his subconscious mind. One of those habits is meditation and visualization.
McCarthy himself struggled with meditation and visualization at the beginning, as it can be difficult taking the time out of a busy day to sit with yourself when there are so many other things to do. But if you don’t have the time to focus on self-betterment, what do you really have? “And now I can’t not do it, because I see how refreshed and creative and energized I come back,” McCarthy says.
One of the main characters he wrote about in The Breakthrough Code is actually based on a close friend of McCarthy’s father, who helped support his family when he was growing up. McCarthy’s father passed away when he was just three years old, losing his life in the Vietnam War. “I still remember watching a taxicab pull up to tell my mom that my dad passed away. And so I grew up in a very fearful environment… lots of grief and fear losing somebody like that,” McCarthy says.
But he also explained that the experience made him stronger, especially once he realized that he was in charge of his own narrative. McCarthy embodied the power to change his story, and his vision has been to help others do the same ever since.
McCarthy is also the host of the Global Energy Summit, and his life’s work translates over into the main messages of The Breakthrough Code. McCarthy believes that your story is a combination of your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. So if you want to change your life, you must first turn inward.
“If you tell someone to take better action, if they don’t have the right thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, they can’t take the action,” McCarthy says. In The Breakthrough Code, he aims to give you the tools you need to surpass those internal blockages and unleash the expansive life you’ve always dreamed of.
It’s not always common to be around other people who think big, or believe that big things are possible for them, McCarthy explains “Because of that, [people] struggle to conform to the reality of what everyone else says as possible.”
