Drinking This Much Coffee May Ward Off Multiple Diseases

Great news for caffeine addicts everywhere.

Moderate coffee consumption may lower your risk of developing cardiometabolic diseases, a group of conditions that are common despite being considered preventable.

Specifically, research recently published in the Endocrine Society’s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism points to a lower risk of developing multiple cardiometabolic diseases, including Type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and stroke.

Researchers found that, compared with those who consume little or no caffeine, people who consume:

  • Three cups of coffee per day had a 48.1% lower risk of developing multiple new cardiometabolic diseases
  • 200-300 mg of caffeine per day had a 40.7% lower risk of developing multiple new cardiometabolic diseases

The findings are based on data on more than 172,000 people who had no cardiometabolic diseases at the start of the study period.

This news comes at a time when the development of multiple new cardiometabolic diseases — which is technically known as cardiometabolic multimorbidity — has become a growing public health concern, according to the Endocrine Society.

So don’t stress if you’re reading this while sipping your third cup of the day.
