Netflix is hiking its prices. The popular streaming service will boost the prices of its basic, standard and premium plans to $9.99, $15.49 and $19.99, respectively.
Those are increases of $1, $1.50 and $2 a month. New customers will have to pay the new cost now, while existing customers will receive emails notifying them 30 days before the price hike will affect them, The Verge reports.
This is the first time Netflix has increased its prices since October 2020. Still, if you are unhappy about the price hikes, you have plenty of other entertainment options. Many streaming services offer rates below those of Netflix.
For example, Hulu‘s most popular plan is just $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year.
Paramount+ is another affordable streaming service. Its Essential plan costs $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year. Its Premium plan costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year — which brings the monthly cost down to about $8.33.
Peacock has two paid plans, which are as cheap as those of Paramount+, and Peacock offers a free plan.
Other services that cost less than Netflix include:
- Amazon Prime Video — free for Prime members, $8.99 per month for non-members
- Apple TV+ — $4.99 per month
- Discovery+ — $4.99 per month with ads, $6.99 per month without ads
- Disney+ — $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year
- Frndly — $6.99 per month

Granted, none of the above services can truly replace Netflix because Netflix offers original content that isn’t available through any other streaming service. In fact, a 2021 survey from Hub Entertainment Research found that viewers overwhelming say Netflix has the best original programming.
Still, unless you’re eager to spend an extra $12 to $24 a year on Netflix, now is a good time to at least shop around. Streaming TV options are constantly changing.
